Humidifiers
In the northern climates, the winter season is fraught with dry air. This is where the need for humidifiers is felt as they send small molecules of moisture in air. There are many types of humidifiers but because of its lower maintenance cost, whole-house humidifiers are a popular choice. Whole-house humidifiers can run for 5 to 6 weeks continuously, without the need for any cleaning.
Benefits of Humidifiers
- Makes air moist, which helps to relieve cold, cough, flu and hay fever symptoms and keeps lungs more elastic.
- Susceptibility to infection is reduced drastically by keeping the mucus membranes of throat and nasal passages moist and thus, allowing the tiny hair in both to obstruct the dust and bacteria.
- Relieves and prevents dry, scratchy skin and lips.
- Reduces static electricity thus prevents tiny shocks received from touching people and certain objects. The problem of static electricity occurs generally in winters when the air is dry. It can be very annoying when it charges doorknobs and metallic furniture (not to mention painful!). Static electricity can damage electronic appliances too.
- Helps prevent wooden floor from buckling and separating by hydrating. It helps keep furniture in good shape as well.
- Nosebleeds are less prevalent.
- Improves the atmosphere and air quality in home, thus moisturizing the respiratory system which is beneficial for asthma sufferers.
- Fatigue, tiredness, headache and reduced concentration levels due to lack of adequate oxygen are lessened.
Humidifiers also save a lot of money on heating bills. A proper humidity level in your house (between 40-50%) helps keeps you warm whereas low humidity makes the air cooler. Hence, you feel less cold in the winters which should translate into lower home heating bills!
